  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup diced onions
  • 1/2 cup chopped pickles (optional for added zest)
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste or sugar-free ketchup
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by cooking the bacon until crispy, then crumble and set aside. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, seasoning with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Once cooked, drain excess fat if necessary.
  2. In the same skillet, add diced onions and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, combine the cooked beef, onions, heavy cream, tomato paste, and three-quarters of the shredded cheddar cheese. Add chopped pickles if desired. Mix well to incorporate all flavors.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish. Top evenly with the remaining cheese and sprinkle with crumbled bacon. Garnish with chopped parsley if using.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top. Let rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground turkey for beef for a leaner option.
  • Add sliced vegetables like mushrooms, bell peppers, or zucchini for extra nutrients.
  • This casserole can be prepared ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
