Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking dish.
- Prepare three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumb-Parmesan mixture.
- Season chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Dredge each chicken in flour, then egg, then breadcrumb mixture.
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Brown chicken on both sides until golden, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Transfer chicken to the prepared baking dish. Spoon marinara sauce over each piece and top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and chicken is cooked through.
- Garnish with fresh basil before serving. Serve hot with pasta or a side salad.
Notes
- For extra crispy chicken, double coat the chicken in breadcrumbs.
- Use fresh basil for the best flavor.
- Can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
