Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Additional melted butter or egg wash for glazing
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by combining it with warm milk and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add melted butter and beaten egg to the yeast mixture, then pour into the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm spot for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the risen dough, divide into equal portions, shape into balls or desired shapes, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush the rolls with melted butter or egg wash, then bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and serve with butter, jam, or your favorite toppings.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add cinnamon, nuts, or dried fruits to the dough.
- Ensure the dough is well kneaded for fluffy results.
- Use an airtight container to store leftovers at room temperature for up to two days.
- Freeze unbaked rolls for longer storage, then reheat as desired.
