Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450 g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or neutral stir-fry oil
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
- Thinly slice the beef against the grain and marinate with soy sauce, garlic, and a teaspoon of cornstarch if desired. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Wash and cut broccoli into bite-sized florets. Lightly blanch in boiling water for 2 minutes, then drain and set aside.
- In a small bowl, whisk together honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sesame oil, and black pepper to make the sauce.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef slices and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
- Add remaining oil to the skillet. Toss in the broccoli and stir-fry for about 2 minutes. Return beef to the skillet, pour the honey garlic sauce over everything, and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring to coat. For a thicker sauce, stir in a cornstarch slurry and cook until desired consistency is reached.
Notes
- Ensure the beef is sliced thinly against the grain for tender results.
- Blanching broccoli preserves its vibrant color and crunch.
- You can substitute tofu or chicken for beef to suit dietary needs.
- Feel free to add other vegetables like bell peppers, snap peas, or mushrooms.
- For gluten-free, use gluten-free soy sauce or tamari.
