Ingredients
Scale
- 6 large croissants, fresh or day-old to absorb the flavors
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk or heavy cream
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Optional toppings: powdered sugar, whipped cream, fresh berries
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish or line it with parchment paper. Slice the croissants into halves or thirds if large.
- Arrange the croissant pieces evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle the chocolate chips or chopped chocolate over the croissants.
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk or cream, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this custard over the croissants and chocolate, ensuring even absorption.
- Let sit for 10 minutes to allow the croissants to soak up the custard. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the top is golden brown and custard is set.
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, then top with powdered sugar, whipped cream, or fresh berries as desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- Use slightly stale croissants for a better soak and richer texture.
- Experiment with different chocolates such as dark or white chocolate chips for variety.
- Prepare the dish the night before and bake in the morning for convenience.
