  • Total Time: 2 hours
  • Yield: 12 buns

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup sweetened cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup currant jam
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and a teaspoon of sugar. Let sit until foamy, about 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add softened butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover the dough and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and roll out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Spread cream cheese evenly over the dough, then dollop currant jam on top. Roll up tightly from the long side to form a log.
  6. Slice into 1-inch thick rounds and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the dough is fully risen for fluffy buns.
  • You can substitute with your favorite jam or cheese spread.
  • Serve warm for best flavor and texture.
