Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 dozen fresh or day-old croissants, sliced into halves or quarters
- 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk or heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
- Maple syrup or whipped cream for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
- Arrange the sliced croissants evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the croissants.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Pour the custard mixture over the layered croissants and chocolate, ensuring they are soaked evenly. Gently press down if necessary.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 40-45 minutes until golden and set. Remove foil in the last 10 minutes for a crispy top.
Notes
- Use day-old croissants for best texture and absorption.
- You can prepare this casserole the night before and refrigerate overnight.
- Serve with powdered sugar, fresh berries, or maple syrup for added flavor.
